So my girlfriend finally made me watch this (I knew the day would come) so I figured I’ll at least make a review out of it.
So the film actually does something right from the very start: they make it an actual musical. At least 75% of the movie is singing or dancing so if you like musicals this is your movie.
They will start to lose people with the music they sing. If you like 80’s rock this is not your movie (the movie is all 80’s rock but let me explain). The way they sing is very reminiscent of how Glee sings their versions of (some) classic songs: all the energy of the original is taken out and made palatable to the masses (please refer to The Rocky Horror Picture Show episode). Some of the songs are done well but other not so much. Many will leave you with a feeling of “Why was that song used? That was random. Are they just using every song from that period?” Tom Cruise’s parts are passable but I’m not sure if he is really suited for singing roles and the same goes for Alec Baldwin.
In general the film is just fun to watch. Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin are great together and Catherine Zeta-Jones plays a good crazy power-wife. I do wish Brian Cranston had had more time though. All of his parts were enjoyable.
Overall Rating: C+ to B-
Enjoyment Level: B+ (fun to just chill and watch mindlessly)
Watching my favourite episode of The Walking Dead, “Days Gone Bye.” Is it possible that the show peeked at its premier?

Since this is my first review I’m going to keep it fairly short.
The first episode of Season 3 was fairly solid. The plot progressed from A-B in a pretty standard way with nothing really spectacular happening. The best parts of the episode were the interactions between Carol and Darryl (I’m also partial to the scene where Carl tries to stay in Beth’s cell but Herschel gives him the hint to leave; finally I didn’t hate Carl).
The action is very average. Well to be fair it was very good by regular standards but we Walking Dead fans have been exposed to a lot of good killing over our short time with the show.
Overall the acting was good but I feel like show needs to pick up plot wise or else they are risking losing fans from boredom. Random zombie killing and Andrew Lincoln’s good acting will only keep us for so long.
P.S. I’m very concerned for Hershel. He is one of my favourite characters and I really hope he survives this season (doubtful). I’m also excited to see the Governor enter the show. That will defiantly help the show along.
Overall: Good episode but not a great season opener.
Rating: B to B+
